Prayer for my sweet Mom

My husband and I were watching TV last night when we received a phone call that nobody wants to hear or ever get. It was my brother saying he was on his way to the hospital in Iowa City because Mom had just had a stroke. I was hysterical. I chatted with him for a minute and then my Dad beeped in. He was a wreck too telling me that he was waiting for the ambulance to arrive (my parents live in the middle of nowhere), but mom was responsive, praise God. All I remember him saying was PRAY. As I hung up with both of them, I sobbed in Darryl’s arms, and crying out to God. We both sat down and prayed together on the couch, I was still crying. Darryl started reading about strokes online and we continued to pray. What I knew about strokes was nothing good that was for sure.

About 2 hours later, my Dad called back saying that Mom was doing very well! The CAT scan did not show any brain bleed, and she was going to have more tests today (Monday). She did not have any more paralysis on her right side, no droopy mouth, her speech was fine, and she was alert (but kept repeating herself that she was watching Amazing Race when it happened ~like 20x). What an answer to prayer! We couldn’t help but praise God and cry some more.

It is so hard being 1200 miles away and this whole ordeal was so difficult. I didn’t know if I should go be with her and my Dad or to stay here. I decided not to go to Iowa. My Dad and brother both agreed that it wasn’t necessary, because she is doing so great. She is going to stay in the hospital overnight again tonight for observation.

What a mighty God we have and I am so thankful to HIM for the gift of my Mom. I love her and miss her very much. My prayer now is that she will recover quickly and they won’t find anything else she needs to be concerned with.

NEW UPDATE at 7pm

My Mom was told by the DR that she had a small blood clot in her brain, but it was not serious. The DR said she had a mini-stroke called a TIA (transient ischemic attack).  She will be on an aspirin a day now and she is getting her blood pressure meds tweaked. She said the critical time is almost over (the first 24 hours). The plan is for her to come home tomorrow! Smile

Lindsey’s 7!

I still can’t believe my oldest turned 7 on Friday! It just seems like yesterday she was born. And I remember that day and will never forget it either.

She was induced (I had preeclampsia) on the 17th at 7am, and she wasn’t born until the 18th at 1:17 in the morning! I was so exhausted, but overcome with joy and love at the same time!

On Friday, I decided that I would make her day special. She wanted cookies to pass out to her friends at school for a special snack. Then I picked her up early from school and we went to Pizza Hut for the buffet lunch (one of our favorite places to eat lunch). We had a nice time chatting and laughing while we stuffed our faces with salad, breadsticks, pizza, and dessert pizza. Smile

Then she asked if we could go into Old Navy and do some shopping….a girl after my own heart! She picked out a few shirts and I picked up a couple of things for myself too. Then we went to I-Party to get the rest of her party things and then headed home to stuff her goody bags.

Lindsey wanted Friendly’s for dinner so we met Darryl there and had a nice dinner. The staff sang a cute little song to her, and she was so embarrassed while she ate her candy shoppe sundae. We came home and she opened a few presents. We told her she had to wait until Saturday for the rest.

She invited 6 girls to join her at You're Fired which is a paint your own pottery place. They had a blast painting, laughing, opening presents, and stuffing their faces with chocolate and pink frosting cupcakes (thank you Danielle!). It was so cute to listen to them talk while they worked.

When Lindsey and I got home, Darryl had decorated the house with Hayleigh with streamers and balloons (thanks hun!). Family was coming over for dinner, presents, and we ate more of those delicious cupcakes and had ice-cream.
